what is bullying?
Bulling is such an important issue happening in the lives of children and young adults and should be addressed more due to the consequences of it. unwanted aggressive behavior done toward someone of any age. the behavior often repeats and may have serious lasting problems. The four types of bullying are. bullying has not specific place to happen but often happens in school.
What are the types of bullying and what are they
1. Cyber bullying: cyber bullying occurs when someone is being harm through any digital device. it includes sending negative, false, harmful, or mean content about someone else. It also includes when someone publicly shares personal information that might embarrass or harm someone else.
2. verbal bullying: this type of bullying is when someone uses verbal language to insult someone. this often consist of teasing, threatening to harm, name calling, and taunting.
3. Social bullying: this type of bullying is when someone harms someone else reputation or hurting someone's relationship. some behaviors that are part of social bullying is telling someone to not be friends with someone just because, embarrassing someone in public, spreading rumors about someone, and leaving someone out on purpose.
4. physical bullying: This type of bullying consist of physically hurting someone or possessions. it may include spitting, tripping, pushing, kicking, pinching, hitting, and making rude hand gestures.
examples of bulling/ personal stories of bullying occurred
cyber bulling: ""I stopped being friends with this girl who was just a bad influence on me, and she got a couple of her friends to hate me. On MSN they had a group chat room, and it was the two girls, and they were threatening to bully me at school, and I got scared about it. (The first girl) said if I came to school she would beat me up during recess, so during that day I hid in the bathroom at lunch."" - 12 year-old girl from AL
verbal bullying: ""A boy in my sixth grade math class called me mean names. Like four eyes, alien and more just for wearing glasses. It made me very upset. I don't think that kids who wear glasses shouldn't get made fun of. It's not someone's fault for wearing glasses."" - 11 year-old boy from MI
Social bullying: ""I was the new girl in school and everyone just had to be mean to me. The girls in my class wrote my name on the bathroom stall saying i like two boys when i did not even like one of them. i had trusted two of the girls and they let me down. In the bathroom stall every single girl could see it. Luckily i told my mom and then she told my teacher and they got detention with the principal for a week."" - 12 year-old girl from Ontario

how often dose bullying occur
About 20 percent of people has reported being bullied. one out of every five
consequences of bullying
bullying bring many consequences:
phycological effects: The phycological effects that result form bullying are "depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, self-harming behavior (especially for girls), alcohol and drug use and dependence, aggression, and involvement in violence or crime (especially for boys)"
physical effects: "However, the ongoing stress and trauma of being bullied can also lead to physical problems over time. A child who is bullied could develop sleep disorders - such as difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep - stomachaches, headaches, heart palpitations, dizziness, bedwetting, and chronic pain and somatization" often times bullying leads to suicide.
Academic effects: research has shown that students who face bullying seem to have a academic drop at the same time their being bullied. It has a negative impact on both grades and standardized test scores starting as early as kindergarten and continuing through high school.
how to seek for help?
There is a Anti-bullying legislation that is intended to help reduce and eliminate bullying. As a parent there is a key role they can play to see if your child is being a victim/the bully. This can be done simply by becoming familiar with warning sighs that your child is being bullied or is bullying.
