The topic that I will be explaining today relates to environmental pollution. This topic has been one of the most interesting to myself prior to taking a course about public health science. In general, our society is greatly affected by environmental pollution such as air. With this being more popularize as time comes, it affects our pubic and individual health due to an increase of morbidity and mortality. As the particles penetrate our immune system, respiratory and cardiovascular diseases will be inhibited. Even though that ozone in the stratosphere plays a protective role against ultraviolet irradiation, it is harmful when in high concentration at ground levels.
In general it is almost impossible to get completely rid of environmental pollution. We would definitely need a lot of regulations for this to occur. Another thing that is affecting our people is the amount of heavy metal such as lead being absorbed in a human body. With that being said, lead can directly poison you and could have chronic intoxication depending on the exposure. The long term affect that associates with air pollution are chronic asthma, pulmonary insufficiency, cardiovascular disease and cardiovascular mortality. The environmental pollution is a problem that many countries are facing and it is only getting worst by day.
In developing countries, the problem is more worst and uncontrolled alongside their development of industrialization. Countries like China are one of the worst in the nation, mainly because of there industrial development and overpopulation. With that being a issue, China faces an increase in lung cancer mortality due to the particles floating around. Countries like India are ones who have extreme air pollution as well, the international airports sometimes cancel due to the reduction of visibility. Nevertheless, pollution does occur in both the rural and urban areas in India due to their fast industrialization, urbanization, and rise of use of motorcycle transportation.
Some strategies to improve air quality to require an estimation of economic value of benefits gained from proposed programs. These programs are designed by public authorities and issued with guidelines to be shown. The USA, has established an national air quality limit values named NAAQS (National Ambient Air Quality Standards).
